Hyderabadi Green Chili Curry

 

Ingredients:

  • Green chilies ½ kg (medium size)

  • Onions 4 large, thinly sliced

  • Poppy seeds 2 tbsp

  • Sesame seeds 2 tbsp

  • Coriander seeds, cumin seeds, 2 tbsp

  • Coconut (dried) 1 tbsp

  • Turmeric powder 2 tsp (roast and grind to a fine paste of each)

  • Ginger and garlic paste 1 tbsp

  • Curry leaves 6

  • Nigella seeds (kalonji) 1 tsp

  • Salt to taste

  • Tamarind (imli) 1 cup (soaked in 2 cups hot water)

  • Dalda or your choice of cooking oil ½ cups

Baghar (Fried Garnish)

  • Cumin seeds ½ tsp

  • Red chilies 6 pods (whole)

  • Fenugreek seeds (methi) 6

  • Curry leaves 4

Method:

  • Heat oil in a shallow pan. Fry chilies with salt and remove from pan. Immediately put the ingredients of garnish in the oil, stir for 30 seconds, add sliced onions.

  • Fry till pale golden. Add all the spices to the onions along with curry leaves. Now put the chilies in it and fry for 5-7 minutes. Add tamarind pulp to it and cook on low heat for 10-15 minutes.
